The CADIZ Freedom Swim 2010 to Benefit the Vista Nova School in Capetown
Looking for a challenging open water swim for a good cause? Check the CADIZ Freedom Swim in South Africa on 2 May.Cold water, 7.5km of strong currents, and (while no one has ever been hurt) the possibility of a shark. The swim has both individual and relay divisions and follows English Channel Swimming rules.

New use for closed public swimming pools (Channel NewsAsia via Yahoo! Malaysia News)
SINGAPORE: The government has found new use for two of the four public swimming pools which were closed for over five years.

GRF Board returns swimming to Dollar pool with lowered temp. Board also hears about Creekside progress, survey results ... (Rossmoor News)
As of now, Dollar pool will once again be open for swimming, not just bobbing. The GRF Board voted seven to two to return the temperatures there to 88 degrees, thereby lifting the ban on exercise in the pool that the higher temperature necessitated.

Carcass of 18 monkeys found in swimming pool (Press Trust of India)
Siliguri (WB), Mar 2 (PTI) The carcasses of at least 18 wild monkeys were found in a disused Army swimming pool at Bangdoba near here in Darjeeling district, police said.

2010 NCAA Swimming Championships - 2010 College Swimming Championships - NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA

The 2010 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) men's and NCAA women's swimming and diving championship swim meets are among the many March Madness NCAA events. Don't forget about the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) college national championship swim meets.

March 2010 College National Championship Swim Meets:

  • The NCAA DI Men's Championship Swim Meet is 25-27 March
  • The NCAA DI Women's Championship Swim Meet is 18-20 March
  • The NCAA DII Men's and Women's Championship Swim Meet (coed meet) is 10-13 March
  • The NCAA DIII Men's and Women's Championship Swim Meet (coed meet) is 17-20 March
  • The NAIA Men's and Women's Championship Swim Meet (coed meet) is 3-6 March

Chloe Sutton Wins Fourth Gold to Wrap up 2010 Missouri Grand Prix Swim Meet
The 2010 Missouri Grand Prix Swim Meet wrapped up Monday morning with timed finals of the women's 1500m free and the men's 800m free. USA Swimming National Teamer and 2008 Olympian Chloe Sutton won the women's 1500m free in 16:56.98, ahead of Taylor O'Brien (17:09.91) and Gillian Ryan (17:30.12).

Public shows support for Montauk Downs swimming pool (The Southampton Press & The East Hampton Press)
An online petition has been circulated among members of the Montauk community, as well as the rest of Long Island, to urge Governor David Paterson not to close down the island’s state parks. The proposed closures have also targeted the swimming pool at Montauk Downs.

The Swimmer's Catch-up Drill - Better Freestyle Swimming by Using a Drill to Improve Your Swimming Technique
To be a better swimmer, you need to improve your swim technique and you need to improve your swim fitness, two key elements of good swimming (you probably already realized they were needed!). Getting better at either could improve your swimming speed. Getting better at both could improve swim speed and efficiency. The catch-up drill is one of the many swimming drills that can be used to help a swimmer learn better freestyle swimming technique. Because it is a lot like regular swimming, once the catch-up drill is learned, the swimming drill can be used at almost any point in a swimming workout, at almost any swimming speed, at almost any level of swimming effort.
