'Escape artist' steer rescued from swimming pool (Boston Globe)
A roving half-ton steer has plunged into an icy Ohio swimming pool, requiring a rescue operation that involved a police officer, fire crew and neighbors. They had the 6-year-old Limousin steer named Walter out of the backyard pool in about 15 minutes Tuesday afternoon in rural Ross Township, north of Cincinnati. They put a rope around the animal's neck to ...

Why Do You Swim?

Do you swim to relax, or are you swimming for fitness? Maybe you are doing it for more than just fitness, you are swimming to do swimming races, or to do a triathlon? Why do you swim, what kind of things do you do when you swim, and what are the results. What works - and does not work - for you and your swimming routine?

When Does a Swimmer Catch Water, and When Does a Swimmer Release the Water?
An early swimming catch helps swimmers to maximize the amount of force they can apply to that water while swimming. Swimmers should grab or catch the water as far out in front of them as their body allows. I define the catch as the point in the stroke when swimmers apply pressure to the water that helps the swimmers move forward. Pushing down on the water is not really catching, even though it is pressing on the water. The catch happens when the swimmers action is helping them move toward the finish. But where or when should a swimmer let go of the water - when do they release that pressure - where do they start the recovery?

First Time Ocean Racer Report - Believe in Yourself for Success
One of the swimmers I work with recently took part in her first big ocean race. Angela went through a lot to get to the start of the race (like a fear of swimming in the ocean). She did the work in the pool, improved her technique and her fitness, and even more important, improved her belief in herself as a swimmer. She is allowing me to share her race report from her first race with you... When the race official "literally" drew a line in the sand a massive wall of people manned the line and I was immediately pushed to the back of the pack!
