Faster Swimming - It's All in Your Head
Swimmers, the way you position your head while you swim can have a huge effect on technique and how fast you swim. Head position can make your swimming technique fast or it can make your swimming slow. Swimming with your head up or down - which is fast, and why? Or are both good, but in different situations? Head position, body position, and balance are all related to fast swimming.

Swimming Games
Swimming is not supposed to be just an exercise - it should be fun, too. One way to add more fun to the water is to play an organized game. Many games that can be played on land adapt well to the water, too. Volleyball, football, and even simple games like tag all work at the pool or beach.

Freestyle Swimming Head Point Drill
When swimming freestyle, keep the top of your head pointing in the direction of travel. A swimmer's "Head Point" - the top of their head - works like a compass. If a swimmer's head points someplace besides the destination, things get out of line, swimming technique suffers, and the swimmer gets lost.

Swimmers Goggles - More to Consider... Goggle Fit is Important
Swimming goggles are, like any other product, always changing; maybe for cosmetic reasons or sometimes to function better. There are hundreds of brands and models around the world. Sized for children or adults, designed for oval or round eye sockets, tinted, clear, hypoallergenic, prescription, or anti-fog, these little things make opening your eyes underwater much more comfortable, and actually let you see where you are going.

Olympic Swimmer John Naber on Motivation
At the Montreal Olympics in 1976, the USA men's team had one of the greatest single team performances of all times. One of the noteworthy swimmers on that team was backstroker/freestyler John Naber, with four Gold and one Silver medal. He was the most decorated USA ATHLETE at the games. All of John's Olympic final swims were world records. Even in his silver medal event, the 200 Free (Bruce Furniss finished first, but both swimmers were faster than the previous world record).

How did John Naber become one of the best swimmers in the world? Luck? Great coaching? Genetic Gifts? Hard work? I believe the biggest factor was his outlook - his personality and mental skills - in short, his attitude.
