How to purchase kid safe pool covers

By Rebecca Blain

Purchasing kid safe pool covers should be one of your top priorities if you have a lot of children that actively use your pool.

As there are a lot of legal and safety concerns involved with maintaining a safe swimming environment, making certain you purchase the best pool covers possible is very important.

When you go to purchase kid safe pool covers, the first concern that you will have is the type of pool and the type of cover that is safe around children. If you own an above ground pool, you can safely use a standard tarp, as this can be easily removed and stored, as well as placed back onto the pool. This type of cover should be removed out of the reach of children when the pool is in use.

If you own an in ground pool, you will need to make your decision much more carefully. For the most part, roll up pool covers are safe for use around children. These covers can be tied down and rendered harmless very easily. However, pool covers that automatically close when not in use are a very large risk that should not be used when there are children using the pool. If the pool cover malfunctions, any children trapped under the cover can drown or suffocate.

If you are uncertain whether the covers you are considering are kid safe pool covers, you should take the time and effort to question the dealer about all of the risks associated with the type of cover. If the dealer is not willing to mention risks, or have no risks for the type of cover you are considering, find a second opinion. This can be the difference between putting children at risk and having a safe pool environment. With a little work and effort, you should be able to have the safest pool possible.
