Built in pool covers to lower maintenance times on pools

By Rebecca Blain

Built in Pool Covers, typically for in ground pools, are an expensive, yet effective way to lower maintenance times on pools. By covering the pool whenever it is not in use, leaves and other debris are kept from entering the water and can be easily swept from the surface of the covering.

Before you purchase built in pool covers, there are several things that you need to keep in mind. First, you need to make certain that you can get the automatic pool covers in a size that perfectly fits your pool.

This is a requirement, as the units used to open and close the pool are restricted to a variety of sizes. If you have a custom shaped pool, you may have difficulties finding covers that will fit your pool.

In addition to built in pool covers, you will need to have debris baskets for pool pumps. While the automatic pool covers are very good at keeping the majority of all debris from entering the pool, there will still be some debris that enters the pool while it is being used. The debris baskets for pool pumps keep that debris from entering the pump. This is important, as the debris that could enter the pump, such as water and pool toys, could cause the pump to burn out. A burned out motor in a pump can be very expensive to replace, or result in having to purchase a new pump.

In addition to this, a burned out pump can also negatively impact any parts attached to the pump, such as electric and solar based heaters. With the proper care and time invested in keeping the pool clean and making use of the automatic pool covers, you should have little difficulties with your swimming pool.
